Starting Your First R1 Discover Activity

Welcome to beginning the journey of self discovery through R1 Discover Activities! Before we begin the process taking an activity, we first want to cover the different R1 Discover activity types, and then walk through how to begin an R1 Discover activity.

R1 Discover Activity Types

Explore Activities:

Explore activities are intended to provide an interactive overview of R1 topic models. The purpose is to provide a high level understanding of the model and encourage users to reflect on their own experiences as they relate to the models.

Identify Activities:

Identify activities are intended to take users on a deeper journey of self-discovery as they explore a specific topic. These use interactive card-sorting exercises to help users reflect and have an internal conversation with themselves to see where they are inside the topic models. They are designed to promote self-discovery and empower users with vocabulary to better express themselves.

Beginning an R1 Discover Activity

From the Home Dashboard

1. Locate the Start an Activity Widget:

   • When you log in to your R1 Discover account, the Home Dashboard is the first screen you will see. Look for the widget Start an Activity.

2. Select a Topic and Activity:

   • You’ll see a list of available topics, and can view the activities by expanding the topic accordion.

   • Select the activity you wish to explore, and start it by selecting the play button.

From the My Topics Page

1. Navigate to My Topics:

   • Click on the My Topics option from the left navigation menu. This page will display all the topics available to you, categorized for ease of access.

2. Select a Topic and Activity:

   • Browse through the list and select the topic you’re interested in. Each topic will expand to show the associated activities.

   • Select the specific activity you want to explore, and start it by selecting the play button.
